The Foundation — Safety, Survival & Sacred Ground
The root chakra is the first of seven energy centers in the subtle body, located at the base of the spine. In Sanskrit it is called Muladhara — "mula" meaning root, "adhara" meaning support or base. It is the foundation upon which all other chakras rest. A balanced root chakra creates an unshakeable sense of safety, belonging, and groundedness in physical reality.
Muladhara governs our most primal needs: survival, physical safety, shelter, food, and tribal belonging. It holds the energy of our ancestors, our earliest childhood experiences, and our relationship to the material world. When this chakra is balanced, we feel grounded, present, financially stable, and at home in our bodies and on the earth.
The supreme grounding stone. Stabilizes aura, strengthens boundaries, and slowly builds root chakra energy.
Protection and grounding. Creates an energetic shield while anchoring you firmly in the physical.
Iron-rich and deeply grounding. Draws scattered energy down from the upper chakras into the root.
Transmutes negative energy while grounding. Excellent for anxiety and root chakra clearing.
Energizes and revitalizes the root chakra. Excellent for sluggish, depleted first chakra energy.
The root chakra holds the archetype of the Earth Mother — the Great Mother who provides unconditional nourishment and support. When we are disconnected from the root, we are essentially orphaned from this primal mother energy. Healing the root chakra is, in part, the work of learning to receive the earth's unconditional support.
