Swords
Upright Meaning
A single heart hangs suspended against a rain-swept sky, pierced cleanly by three blades — the portrait of a grief that names itself without euphemism. The Three of Swords does not ask you to feel better; it asks you to feel honestly. The piercing has already happened. What remains is the work of grief: the slow metabolizing of a painful truth into wisdom. Do not rush this. Some cuts are how the heart breaks open, not apart.
Reversed Meaning
The grief is beginning to move — or it has been suppressed and is leaking sideways as irritability, numbness, or displaced anger. The reversed Three can mean either the hopeful early stages of healing or the warning that unprocessed pain is shaping your present more than you realize. Name what happened. Let it be as large as it actually was. Only then can it begin to become smaller.
✦ The Illustration
A dark cloud bank with diagonal rain streaks fills the sky. At center a heart is pierced by three silver swords — one vertical, two crossed — with three drops falling beneath it.
✦ Affirmation
“I honor my grief by naming it truthfully and letting it move through me.”
